Osama bin Laden has been killed, two United States officials said. President Obama was expected to make an announcement on Sunday night, almost ten years after the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

One of the officials said that American forces, acting on intelligence, launched a “targeted assault” that killed Bin Laden, whose ability to elude capture for so long deeply frustrated the Bush administration.

The news of the death of the leader of Al Qaeda was bound to electrify the world, particularly as it comes a full decade after American forces, under President Bush, launched their all-out assault to find the man responsible for the Sept. 11 attacks.

May 1, 2011   Earlier this evening, President Obama called to inform me that American forces killed Osama bin Laden, the leader of the al Qaeda network that attacked America on September 11, 2001.  I congratulated him and the men and women of our military... and intelligence communities who devoted their lives to this mission.  They have our everlasting gratitude.  This momentous achievement marks a victory for America, for people who seek peace around the world, and for all those who lost loved ones on September 11, 2001.  The fight against terror goes on, but tonight America has sent an unmistakable message:  No matter how long it takes, justice will be done.

You know people can say whatever they want about Bush but the man could give a damn speach that would give you fucking goose bumps and make you damn proud to be an American. I realize he didn't write them, since none of them do, although I think they do have an input, but he sure as hell could give them. His statement is simple but packs a great deal of punch.

I was sitting here watching a report on the sex trafficing trade and they poped up at 10 saying that there was an announcement at 10:30 so I waited and waited and watied and about 11 the leaks started happening and Obama finally came on at 11:30 to confirm it.

My husband was like I hope they have a body (this was before they said they did) I said hell I hope they have DNA because it's like the soaps if they die and you have the body it still doesn't mean it wasn't their evil twin or they didn't have someone doing the double thing. They said later they do have DNA to match so that made me even happier.

Amazing, right? I was watching Breakout Kings on A&E when my hubby just blurted out that he saw it on the internet. Wow. There are 6 military bases on this island that have heightened security so traffic is a nightmare around town right now but I'll gladly endure this for the duration if it means the world will be safer in the long run.
